MindUnplugged - Privacy Policy

MindUnplugged ("the app", "we") is a wellness app focused on digital detox. We designed it to collect as little information as possible.

Who we are

MindUnplugged is an independent project built by Amish Gupta, a high school student. You can contact us at amish.gupta705@gmail.com.

What we collect

• Anonymous account ID. When you open the app for the first time, Firebase creates a random anonymous identifier. We never ask for your name, email, phone, or location.
• Self-reported wellness data. Mood check-ins, detox sessions, gratitude entries, urge-surf events, and triggers you log. This is stored in Google Firestore under your anonymous ID.
• App preferences. Theme, notification settings, and 7-Day Diet progress, stored on your device.
• Crash data (opt-in). If you allow it in Settings, we collect anonymized crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics. This is off by default.

What we do NOT collect

• No name, email, phone number, or address.
• No location data.
• No advertising identifiers (IDFA).
• No third-party trackers or ad networks.
• No microphone, camera, or contacts access.

How we use it

Your data is used only to power features inside the app: your Insights screen, streak, and history. We do not sell, rent, share, or transfer it to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

Service providers

To run the app, we rely on the following sub-processors:

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Crashlytics) - hosts your anonymous account ID and self-reported wellness data. See Firebase's privacy information.
• Apple Push Notification service - delivers any local reminders you opt into. Local notifications are scheduled on your device; we do not send push notifications from a server.

These providers act on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments. We do not allow them to use your data for their own marketing.

Your rights

• Export your data. Settings includes "Export all data (JSON)" for everything we have, and "Export check-ins (CSV)" for a spreadsheet-friendly slice.
• Delete your data. Settings → "Delete all my data" permanently wipes your Firestore record and local app state. There is no recovery.
• Withdraw analytics consent. Settings lets you turn Crashlytics off at any time.

California, EEA, and UK residents

If you live in California (CCPA/CPRA), the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom (GDPR), you have additional rights including the right to access, correct, delete, and port the personal data we hold about you, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. Because the app does not collect names or contact information, the in-app Export and Delete tools above are the fastest way to exercise these rights. We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.

Children's privacy

MindUnplugged is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Because the app does not collect names or contact information, we have no way to contact a parent or guardian directly. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, contact us and we will delete any data associated with the anonymous ID.

Data location and retention

Data is stored on Google Firebase servers (United States). It is retained until you delete it via the app or stop using the app. Anonymous accounts that are inactive for 24+ months may be removed automatically. Data exported to your device (JSON or CSV) is stored locally and is your responsibility once exported.

Security

Data in transit is protected by TLS. Data at rest in Firebase is encrypted by Google. No system is perfectly secure, but we follow standard practices and minimize what we collect to limit the impact of any incident.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
